A fellow human being

I don’t really know who I am. Professionally, I’d like to think I am truly an interdisciplinary researcher, a social scientist at heart but also with a background and training in science and technology. I could be an economist, a sociologist, an environmental scientist, or a geographer, though they may not recognize me as one of them. Perhaps I should say I am a complexity scientist.

Personally, I was born in China but have spent the past twenty years of my life in the US where my mind went through an intellectual transformation. Italy was the first foreign country I ventured to see; the place and people there have showed love to me, and how could I not love them? That mark the warm Mediterranean air left on me is permanent.

I have read more Western than Chinese classics, and actually it was only till recently that I began to learn Chinese history. I had fallen in love with the child Krishna and have been a great admirer of Battista Alberti. I am fascinated by the old Persian Empire and the magical land of Latin America. My dream is to return to Africa where our common ancestors had started the extraordinary human journey.

One thing I am certain of is this: I am a human being just like you. I am glad that our lives come across in this small space. Anyone who comes to visit is a friend, and I’d love to hear your thought too, my friends.
