After the disturbance of a busy July 4th, the river recovers slowly. Two turtles are having sun on a piece of wood, but jump into water cautiously when I pass by; The little muskrat hides himself nowhere I know, but just the other day he was working diligently around his home - he swam out of a small stream, gathered grasses on the riverbank, swam back carrying grasses between his teeth, dropped them home and came out again to gather more; Out of his usual composure, the blue heron hovers around, not sure where to go, lands at an unusual spot on Barton Pond. And the water under the mulberry tree is empty; such is also the state of my mind - those lectures of Prof. Lin Yifu on economics and China economy (what theoretical & practical significance his work demonstrates! and what sharp eyes he has to see through things!), as if a too-strong beam of light, strike my brain beyond the range of setting forth sparks, and instead shut down neuron firings all together. With a blank mind, I can do nothing but run and run fast, not even trying to think, but hoping something will come out of it, maybe tomorrow or the day after tomorrow... |
