In the early morning of the commencement day, thunders roared and
rocked a heavy sky. But "the big house" was packed. And the
president's helicopters landed safely.
From the waving
arms and exciting cries, I felt your joy of accomplishment - I am happy for
you too, young men and young women. But the journey has just begun, and new
expectations already arise for what to come. A decade ago, human history
turned its page to another century. The world we live in today has become
increasingly crowded and interconnected, but the poor and the rich
(individual-wise and nation-wise) are more divided. We are not only loosing
biodiversity: mono-culture is taking over the globe in the name of
globalization, and people are becoming single-minded in seeking for
material satisfaction and small pleasures. In the east, economic growth
takes off, but people are poorer spiritually, and thus Christ finds a new
market; in the west, as people taste the bitterness of an economic crisis,
Christ seizes an opportunity for revival - only because there is nowhere
else to look for support and love. And human well-being is threatened by the degrading
environment resulting from human activities. Philosophy is dead. But
we desperately need a new kind of philosophy in the 21st
century.
How about
promote CREATIVITY? Be it individually or collectively - Anything is
destined to diminish without creativity. How about respect DIVERSITY? -
Diversity facilitates creativity. How about interact on the principle of
FAIRNESS? - Even if we think a little globally with a bit far sight, it
should be simple to understand gains from one-direction extraction can't
last. Let's at least be kind with each other, and treat our planet kindly -
It's perhaps OK or necessary to exploit nature and the self-interest of
people during the initial period of human development to accumulate total
wealth, but heading on this path blindly without adjustments only takes
humanity to a dead end.
Just as the president was addressing the future of the world, I
noticed thick clouds were looming over the big house. Young men and young
women, are you ready? Not to be a bolt or nut on the big machine, but be an
agent of change, change that leads to a better world. Go blue and beyond
blue!
