Existence vs. Living Life has two parts: existence and living. Death is born with life. As we know we will eventually die, naturally we want to do something that can prove we have existed: giving birth to children, writing books, building towers..., and this is more about the life after this life. Living, however, is a different matter: living is to feel, feel the small wonders of life (acorns with their hearts open under an old oak, lightning bugs roaming late summer nights, warm glows of city lights in the river...), feel the joy of loving and being loved and even feel pains sometimes..., and living is about this life. Some argue since towers can exist longer and books can reach wider, they should be put at the top of the ladder of immortality. Others say being an artist is the ultimate way of life because in living his life, he also creates artwork that proves his existence, and this is why artists are highly regarded in many cultures. You think we only have one life, and it's all up to us how to use a few fast-passing decades. Imagine that in the life after this one, children will continue our genes, our books will still be read, or the towers we build will survive us, but we will not be there anymore, nor will we know or feel it. You'd better not miss LIVING THIS life. |
